There are so many smartphone brands that are simply waiting to implode irrespective of its tier level. Naturally, everyone would try to get an upper hand- whether its specs, lineups, service, presence of brand name, appealing to niche users….hooking up with Pepsi for smartphone lineup. Not an app. Not just a phone. An entire lineup of Android smartphones. This was spotted in a verified Weibo account and eventually confirmed by a Pepsi representative.
A Pepsi spokesperson spoke to TechRadar,”We are pleased to share that Pepsi is working with a licensing partner to bring a line of mobile phones and accessories to market in China in the next few months.”
It was also added these lineups will only be available for China. Pepsi also clarified that they have no plans to get into the mobile smartphone business, but are committed to work on innovative ways to grow its brand.
According to the leaked information, one of the Pepsi branded smartphones is a 5.5″ 1080p screen with a Mediatek MT6592 SOC and a 2GB RAM. It has a 16GB ROM, a 13-megapixel rear camera, and a 5 Megapixel front-facing camera. It would be using Android 5.1. According to the details, this phone would be launched on October 20th. We can assume that the UI skin would be Pepsi-themed in some way. The OEM is unknown as of now.
PepsiCo owns many drinks brands- Mountain Dew, Gatorade, Mirinda and even snacks such as Doritos, Cheetos and Lays.
